HEATMAP (2022, Imani Records) established Caleb's flexible quartet, where the music is designed to create opportunities for the musicians to showcase their sounds and individuality.
Recorded with Orrin Evans (piano), Eric Revis (bass), and Gerald Cleaver (drums), the music has also been performed with bassists Matt Penman, Rashaan Carter, Sean Conly, and Trevor Dunn; drummers Mark Whitfield II, Allan Mednard, and Tom Rainey; and with pianists Fabian Almazan, Marta Sanchez and Julian Shore.
HEATMAP headlined the 2023 Jazz de Providencia Festival in Santiago, Chile, at the Hamptons Jazz Fest, and has performed around NYC.
about HEATMAP
"one of the more interesting alto saxophonists to emerge since 2000... [Heatmap] reveals a power source previously uncovered, and a broader connection with the music itself."
★★★★½
"Heatmap is truly exhilarating post-Ornette free-jazzmaking, and confirms just how much rich invention that method can still set loose."
★★★★ (Editor's Pick)
"Heatmap radiates with brilliance, highlighting the very act of playing music and the intangible but irreplaceable energy that doing so creates."
"Heatmap is a masterpiece-we cannot find a term that defines it more precisely-and, for the writer, a very pleasant surprise."
"Seriously impressive in every way, this mood-shifting music leaves you breathless."
"... a splendid cross-section of contemporary music… one of the most impressive aspects of this music is how this quartet can sizzle, explode, whisper, and float without ever sounding forced or unnatural."
